Annie is a Certified Professional Midwife specializing in home birth services, herbal medicine, lactation consulting, and childbirth education. She has a passion for personalized maternity care and building strong relationships with the women and families she serves. She emphasizes the importance of respect and autonomy for birthing women. She believes that the way we welcome babies into this world has a profound effect on their lives, and that gentle births can change our world.
Annie earned a BA from The Colorado College in Biology and Environmental Science in 2002. She later traveled to the Appalachian School of Holistic Herbalism in North Carolina for training as a Traditional Herbalist. Annie enjoys supporting healthy lives with herbal medicine and incorporating her knowledge of plants into her midwifery practice.
When Annie first became pregnant she knew she wanted to be cared for by a midwife, and have her baby at home. Though this pregnancy ultimately ended in loss, she felt supported and empowered throughout the entire process. She knew that the way she approached her pregnancy and birth, and the care she received form her midwives, was paramount to processing her grief and coming out of the experience with a sense of strength and gratitude. It was this first experience with childbirth that started Annie on the path to becoming a midwife.
Annie received her midwifery education and training through the National College of Midwifery, and apprenticeships with homebirth midwives in the Durango area. Upon graduation in 2013, she received her Certified Professional Midwife status as well as licensure to practice in both Colorado and New Mexico. She recently traveled with her family to Senegal for 8 weeks to expand her knowledge of childbirth in a more global context.
Annie lives in Ignacio with her husband and two sons. She enjoys growing food and medicine in her gardens, riding her horses, and spending time in the great outdoors with her family.
